Meet the team

Carmen – Our Legal Weaver. She graduated with a B.Soc.Sci. in 1994 from the University of Natal and then completed her LLB, cum laude, in 1996 from the University of the Witwatersrand. She was admitted as an Attorney in 2000 and obtained her certificate in Pension Fund law thereafter. Carmen has been a practising attorney and legal consultant for the past 23 years. The last 12 of those have been spent as an Independent Pension Law Consultant and Principal Officer for various retirement funds. Carmen is an incredibly talented woman and a force to be reckoned with. She is our Legal specialist and Compliance Officer.

Janine – Our Super-Organised Weaver. She comes from a background in recruitment and has run her own business for the past ten years. Janine studied Fashion Design at D.U.T and qualified in Clothing Management in 1995. She spent the next three years honing her skills as a Production Co-ordinator and Merchandiser. She then moved onto recruitment, working in this arena for 13 years, ten of which were spent establishing and running her own business.  Janine  also completed a swimming instructors’ course and taught swimming for seven years in between her other commitments. She is a diversely talented woman with exceptional organisational skills. She comes on board as our Public Officer and Social Media Specialist.

Wendy – Our Relationship and Sporty Weaver. Wendy has a passion for and  a background in education. She graduated with a B.Phys.Ed. in 1992 from the University of the Witwatersrand, majoring in mathematics and physical education. After 13 years of formal high school teaching, she diversified and currently divides her time between her three small businesses: her swim school, interior decorating business and a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy business. She has spent many years giving both adults and students extra tuition in maths and literacy and coaching youth, whilst still competing in lifesaving and, at a national level, in hockey. With a passion for adventure and the outdoors and her love for the people of South Africa, she comes on board as our Primary Project Identifier and Manager.

This is us - three Weaver Women from three different backgrounds, all adept at running our own businesses, passionate about our country and our people - collaborating to form the Weaver Foundation. Our aim is to make a meaningful difference in our local communities, uplifting and empowering our people to live better and more meaningful lives.

Environment

“I am an African. I owe my being to the hills and the valleys, the mountains and the glades, the rivers, the deserts, the trees, the flowers, the seas and the ever-changing seasons that define the face of our native land” ~ Thabo Mbeki

We recognise that every person has a responsibility to the environment. Without respect for the environment – which includes respect for our companion and farm animals – there is little prospect of sustainable development. It is imperative to establish educational and practical initiatives to foster community environmental sustainability.

We hope to foster community respect for the environment by promoting waste management programmes; water conservation and education programmes; community greening projects and educational initiatives.
